Midwives@ethiopia has been established since 2009, however the trustees have long standing relationships with Ethiopian colleagues and have been working in partnership for many years.
The trustees are experienced Midwives who came together with a shared passion for teaching, education, support and development. Training and research visits are run twice a year and include training midwifery tutors, training midwives, Health Extension worker training programmes, evaluations, focus groups, supporting the development of exemplar health centres and supporting writing standards within rural health centres.
Midwives@ethiopia have provided resources within rural health centres including water collection tanks, a midwifery library, a motor bike to reach women and families in challenging rural areas, clean and safe delivery kits and misoprostil. The focus of the work is rooted in sustainable initiatives focussed on need identified by the community.
Experienced midwives and student midwives are encouraged to contact the organisation to find out about joining us on a trip for work experience or an elective placement. It is a wonderful opportunity to see a very remote part of the world where communities live with very little in terms of resources. The trips are well organised and provide the opportunity to greater insight into global midwifery.
We welcome any support you can offer. If you would like to fund raise for us, sponsor one of us, donate or help in anyway at all we would be very pleased to hear from you.
All the money raised goes directly to buying simple, effective teaching equipment and running effective training courses for midwifery tutors, midwives and health extension workers in Southern Ethiopia.
